   Our Mission    Our Clients

Life Essentials relieves isolation and restores well-being to individuals through a network of dedicated volunteers.

Life Essentials helps people who slip through gaps in community services. Through a dedicated network of volunteers, we provide over 25,000 hours of service each year to people in the greater Dayton area. But we still have so many more people to reach.

Sam is a veteran of the Korean War. After he suffered a stroke, arranging transportation to the Veteran's Hospital became a challenge.

Volunteer Caregivers

Sam is a veteran of the Korean War. After he suffered a stroke, arranging transportation to the Veteran's Hospital became a challenge. Now through the Volunteer Caregivers program, Sam receives a ride to his doctor's appointments. He also receives something he didn't except. "I need the rides," Sam says, "but I really appreciate having someone with me."

Chums

Janice, a 70-year-old Dayton resident, is visited each week by Amy and her two small children. They spend time at the park, watching the kids play. When asked how her life has changed, Janice has a simple reply. "I am a Grandma," she says.

Guardianship

Maria is a 96 year old from El Salvador. Her family hasn't visited her in 15 years. She finds solace with her guardian who speaks her native language. Her guardian says, "Spending time with Maria gives me a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. I know I make a difference in Maria's life."

Volunteers

Dean, a Dayton area retirement home resident, loves nothing more than to enjoy the opportunity for good food and some lively conversation. Having limited transportation options, he was not often able to get out into the community. Through the Chums program, Dean is visited weekly by Scott, a computer support technician, who shares his passion for a freshly cooked meal and some good company. Scott says "It's amazing what a difference even a little bit of time can make in someone's life. Our time together is one of the highlights of Dean's week, and I always enjoy spending time with him."
